- 2023: Slow News Day
Nothing super interesting happened on this day in WSOP history, so here's a factoid: Many WSOP events have run an extra day, usually because of unexpectedly high turnout. Extra events have also been added to the published schedule, including the 1979 $1,000 Limit Ace-to-Five Draw (won by Lakewood Louie), 1981 $2,500 Ace-to-Five Draw (won by Mickey Perry), 1984 $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (won by Dewey Tomko), 1985 $2,500 No-Limit Ace-to-Five Draw with Joker (won by Dick Carson), and 1986 $5,000 No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven Draw (won by Ron Graham). In 2006, the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament was originally scheduled to allow rebuys, and players complained when the WSOP changed it to a freezeout. As a compromise, they held both a freezeout and a rebuy event with staggered starts on the same day.
