- 1973: Bill Boyd Wins $10,000 Five-Card Stud for Third Bracelet
Earns a walkover when nobody wants to challenge him.
- 1976: Howard Andrew Wins $1,000 No-Limit Hold 'Em for Second Bracelet of Year
Defeats record field of 56 for $28,000 just three days after beating a field of 25 for $23,750 in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold 'Em.
- 1980: Sarge Ferris Wins $10,000 Deuce-to-Seven Draw
Defeats field of 19 (6 rebuys of which two were his), including Doyle Brunson heads up, for $150,000 and his first bracelet. [This would end up as the future Poker Hall of Famer's only bracelet.]
- 1981: Eddie Schwettmann Wins $1,000 Limit Hold 'Em
Murray, Kentucky restaurant owner defeats field of 180 for $90,000 in an event missing from WSOP.com.
- 1982: Bingo Palace Runs Satellite for Main Event
Eric Drache may have informally created the first satellite by convincing a table of players at the Horseshoe, but the Bingo Palace Casino advertised the first real satellite tournament in the May 6 Las Vegas Review-Journal, promising to turn one player's $100 entry into a ticket to the Main Event. They held a second satellite the day before the Main Event began.

Although bookies have taken action on who would win past WSOP Main Events, this year the WSOP gave both El Cortez and Poker World the green light to post odds and accept bets. Bobby Baldwin is the favorite at 10-1 at El Cortez (16-1 at Vegas World), followed by Doyle Brunson at 12-1 (18-1), and Jack Straus at 12-2 (22-1).
