Oldest bracelet winner at 80 years, 11 months, and 17 days (1988 $1,500 Limit Ace-to-Five Draw for his ninth bracelet). Seven bracelets from 1970 to 1979 were the most of any player in the decade. - 1972: WSOP Cancels $5,000 Seven-Card Stud
On page 33 of All In, Jonathan Grotenstein and Storms Reback say that because Eric Drache was disappointed that he couldn't determine how many players had registered, he became the WSOP's first tournament director the next year. It turned out that not enough players had signed up, and the tournament was cancelled when Johnny Moss was too tired to play.
- 1973: Puggy Pearson Wins $1,000 No-Limit Hold 'Em for Fourth Bracelet
Defeats field of 17 for $17,000 and record fourth bracelet, passing Johnny Moss and Bill Boyd.
- 1974: Jimmy Casella Wins $1,000 Razz for Second Bracelet of Year, Third Overall
Defeats record field of 36 for $25,000 four days after overcoming a field of 9, including Johnny Moss heads up, for $41,225 in the $10,000 Seven-Card Stud.
- 1979: Starla Thompson Teams With Doyle Brunson to Win Mixed Doubles
Brunson wins fourth bracelet (matching Bill Boyd's record of winning one in four straight years) but generously lets Thompson keep the entire $9,000 first prize. [Thompson would later marry and become Starla Brodie.]
- 1982: Billy Baxter Wins $10,000 Deuce-to-Seven Draw for Second Consecutive Bracelet, Fourth Overall
