After Mike Matusow (6th), Phil Hellmuth (5th), Phil Gordon (4th), and Stan Schrier (3rd) are eliminated, Carlos Mortensen takes a nearly 2-to-1 chip advantage into heads-up play against Dewey Tomko. He still has the lead when he looks down at suited royalty, raises Tomko's button limp, and sees a most interesting flop.

While he was a 17.6% underdog before the flop, he is up to 48.5% as the chips go all in. He misses his flush and straight draws on the turn but make his straight when a lovely Nine hits on the river. Mortensen has the victory and $1,500,000. Tomko takes home $1,098,925, the first runner-up prize to exceed a million dollars.
