Main Event Final Hand
[Hide Final Hand]

For the second straight year, the heads-up portion of the Main Event ends quickly, this time on the seventh hand. Jamie Gold, who dominated the final table with big hands and big bluffs, raises and calls Paul Wasicka's preflop reraise. He raises all in on the flop, and Wasicka, suspecting a bluff, makes the call that leaves him dead to two outs.

When neither the turn nor river produce a Ten, Gold wins $12,000,000, then a record for a poker tournament and still the largest WSOP Main Event prize. The 25-year-old Wasicka gets $6,102,499, a record for second place that may actually have been more than Gold pocketed, having agreed to split his winnings with Crispin Leyser.

Bill Chen also won two events ($3,000 Limit Hold 'Em and $2,500 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold 'Em).

Phil Hellmuth joined the double-digit bracelet club by winning the $1,000 No-Limit Hold 'Em Rebuy event.
