2010 World Series of Poker

2010 WSOP Overview
[Hide Overview]

The 2010 World Series of Poker started on May 27 with the $500 Casino Employees Event. The Main Event was scheduled to run for ten days starting on July 5 (with a break for the November Nine), the 57th event of the festival, the same number as 2009.

The largest buyin event ever, the $50,000 Players Championship 8-Game Mix, debuted and was immediately considered to be a worthy competitor to the Main Event for crowning the best poker player in the world.

The World Series of Poker Europe was held in September with five events, four Hold 'Em and one Pot-Limit Omaha.

Jonathan Duhamel has the chip lead going into the November Nine, with over 30% of the chips, while John Racener is in fourth with under 9%.

Duhamel takes a 6-to-1 lead into heads-up play against the Florida pro. The margin continues to grow until Racener is forced to call all in on the 43rd hand, only an hour and a half into play, before getting blinded away. With a 39.3% chance preflop, his odds shrink with each card on the table, then he is out in second place, good for $5,545,955. Duhamel earns a well-deserved title and $8,944,310 as the first Canadian and sixth foreigner to win the WSOP Main Event.
