Daniel Negreanu's Triple Bracelet Bet

Like Dzmitry Urbanovich and Jason Mercier in 2016, Daniel Negreanu was willing to bet that he'd win three bracelets at the 2017 WSOP in Las Vegas.

He's a smart guy, so he must have figured that the extra motivation would make up for the negative expected value of his wagers, as he offered the bet at not 200-to-1 or even 100-to-1 but even money and soon had to beat back people wanting in on the action.1

His true odds were probably no better than 50-to-1, but if he played 70 of the 74 events, he'd need just over a four percent chance of winning each event to have a good shot at winning three bracelets, which has been done six times:

For the purposes of Negreanu's bet, Danzer's triple wouldn't count, as his third bracelet was at WSOP Europe, not during the summer in Las Vegas.

Players have won at least two bracelets in a year 68 times (61 times in Las Vegas alone):

Negreanu lost the bet but cashed 11 times in about 40 events for $699,804, well short of his goal of $1.5 million. After subtracting $386,000 in buyins (his rebuys are unknown), he netted about $300,000.
