Most Final Tables in One Year

An Tran set an impressive record by reaching six final tables at the 1992 World Series of Poker when there were only twenty events. The record was tied by George Danzer in 2014 and John Monnette in 2016 when there were 65 and 69 events respectively.

Amazingly, after 29 years, three players broke Tran's record on the same day, November 21, 2021. Daniel Negreanu and Joao Vieira got there first at 4:52 p.m., and Phil Hellmuth joined them at 7:50 p.m. (even though his event had started a day earlier). The new record came in a year with 188 bracelet events, more than nine times as many as in 1992.

Just two years later, Ryan Riess and Yuri Dzivielevski both reached eight final tables, and Jeremy Ausmus matched their mark in 2024.

Notes:

Chip Reese set the record of four final tables in 1981 (13 events).
Puggy Pearson won three bracelets in 1973 (7 events) before the concept of a final table really existed, while Johnny Moss can be credited with two "final tables" in 1971 if we restrict final tables to cashes.

Most WSOP Final Tables in One Year, Women

In 1995, Annie Duke became the first woman to reach two final tables in one year. She finished 6th in both the $1,500 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo ($12,285) and the $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold 'Em ($13,860). She repeated the feat in 1996 and 2003, while Jennifer Harman matched her in 2002 (and 2003 and 2010), and Kathy Liebert became the third woman to do it, just over a week before Duke and Harman in 2003.

Cyndy Violette set a new women's record with three final tables in 2005, finishing 2nd in the $2,000 No-Limit Hold 'Em ($295,970), 7th in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Hold 'Em ($44,930), and 7th in the $3,000 Limit Hold 'Em ($44,820). Vanessa Selbst sort of tied her in 2012 with three Top 9 finishes, although one was a tie for 9th-16th in the $10,000 Heads Up No-Limit Hold 'Em (she also made two final tables in 2007 and 2008). Loni Harwood equaled Violette with three final tables in 2013.

Melissa Burr became the first woman to reach four final tables in 2014, finishing 8th in the $10,000 Omaha Hi/Lo Split-8 or Better ($51,768), 5th in the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo-8 or Better ($39,181), 9th in the $1,500 Dealers Choice / Six Handed ($9,944), and 7th in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship ($165,435). Esther Taylor-Brady tied her mark in 2017 (also all in open events).

Kristen Foxen set the current record with five final tables in 2023 (7th in $5,000 Mixed No-Limit Hold 'Em/Pot-Limit Omaha, 4th in Online Bracelet #7: NLH Super High Roller 6-Max, 1st in Online $888 Crazy 8's, 3rd in Online $400 Colossus, and 2nd in Online $3,200 NLH High Roller Championship).
